Activated Charcoal

INCI Charcoal Powder

Overview

A striking, deep black powder, prized for its graphic look and long-standing reputation in beauty products.

What it is

Technically a carbon, not a mineral, activated Charcoal starts as ordinary charcoal then goes through an additional processing step that gives it an especially porous, high-surface-area structure. It’s best known for its bold, jet-black colour.

Where it comes from and how it’s made

Commonly made from coconut shells or wood, burned at high heat and then further processed (“activated”) to increase its porosity.

What it does in a formulation

Contributes a striking, deep black colour and fine texture to a finished product.

Why Lovebee uses it

Activated charcoal has such a bold, graphic look — there’s really nothing else that gives a product that same deep black. We like it for the visual drama it brings, especially in bar soaps and masks where that colour becomes part of the design itself.

Good to know

  • Vegan, when sourced from coconut shells.
  • Carries a strong natural pigment, so it’s worth being mindful around light fabrics and towels.
