Guaiac Wood Essential Oil
INCI Bulnesia Sarmientoi Wood Oil
Overview
A deep, smoky-sweet essential oil distilled from guaiac wood.
What it is
Guaiac Wood Essential Oil is distilled from Bulnesia sarmientoi, a slow-growing tree native to South America. It carries a rich, smoky-sweet, slightly rosy woodiness, often used as a base note in fragrance work.
Where it comes from and how it’s made
Bulnesia sarmientoi grows in the dry forests of South America, particularly Paraguay and Argentina. The wood is steam-distilled to draw out its essential oil.
What it does in a formulation
Contributes a deep, smoky-sweet, woody base note to a finished product’s scent profile.
Why Lovebee uses it
Guaiac wood has this beautiful, smoky depth that grounds a blend without feeling heavy — we like it as a quiet anchor underneath brighter notes.
Good to know

It’s a different species entirely, though it shares the general role of a woody base note in a fragrance blend.
- Can I apply this essential oil directly to my skin?
Not as a standalone oil — on its own, it’s intended for diffuser use only. You’ll already find it safely blended into a number of our topical products, though.
