Sandalwood Hydrosol
INCI Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Water
Overview
A soft, woody hydrosol distilled from sandalwood.
What it is
Sandalwood Hydrosol is the water collected when sandalwood heartwood is steam-distilled. It carries a much gentler version of sandalwood’s rich, creamy character.
Where it comes from and how it’s made
Santalum album is grown primarily in India and parts of Southeast Asia. The water that condenses alongside the essential oil during distillation is collected separately as the hydrosol.
What it does in a formulation
As a light, fragrant water, Sandalwood Hydrosol is used in place of some or all of the water in a formula, bringing a soft, woody note into the finished product.
Why Lovebee uses it
We like this one when we want just a touch of sandalwood’s warm depth rather than the full intensity of the essential oil.
