Virginia Cedarwood Essential Oil

INCI Juniperus Virginiana Oil

Overview

A dry, pencil-shaving woody essential oil distilled from Virginia cedarwood.

What it is

Virginia Cedarwood Essential Oil is distilled from Juniperus virginiana, a juniper species despite the “cedar” in its common name. It carries a dry, sharp, pencil-shaving woodiness distinct from Atlas cedarwood’s warmer character.

Where it comes from and how it’s made

Juniperus virginiana grows widely across the eastern United States. The wood is steam-distilled to draw out the essential oil.

What it does in a formulation

Contributes a dry, sharp, woody base note to a finished product’s scent profile.

Why Lovebee uses it

Virginia cedarwood has that classic pencil-shaving dryness — a different character from Atlas cedarwood, and we like having both on hand for the range they give us across woody blends.

Good to know

  • Used throughout our blended topical products; sold on its own as a single-note oil, it’s intended for diffuser use only.

Common questions

What does Virginia Cedarwood smell like?

Dry and woody, often compared to pencil shavings.

Is Virginia Cedarwood the same as Atlas Cedarwood?

No — they come from different trees entirely and have distinct scent profiles, with Virginia being drier and Atlas being warmer.

Can I apply this essential oil directly to my skin?

Not as a standalone oil — on its own, it’s intended for diffuser use only. You’ll already find it safely blended into a number of our topical products, though.
