Balsam Fir Essential Oil

INCI Abies Balsamea Needle Oil

Overview

A crisp, resinous essential oil steam-distilled from the needles of the balsam fir tree.

What it is

Balsam Fir Essential Oil is distilled from the needles of Abies balsamea, a fir tree native to northeastern North America. Its scent is fresh and resinous — the same forest character familiar from a real Christmas tree.

Where it comes from and how it’s made

Balsam fir grows widely across eastern Canada and the northeastern United States. The needles are steam-distilled to draw out their essential oil.

What it does in a formulation

Contributes a crisp, resinous, forest-like note to a finished product’s scent profile.

Why Lovebee uses it

There’s something genuinely nostalgic about balsam fir — it smells like winter and the outdoors in a way that’s hard to fake with a synthetic fragrance. We like reaching for it in scents built around that crisp, forest character, especially through the colder months.

Good to know

  • Used throughout our blended topical products; sold on its own as a single-note oil, it’s intended for diffuser use only.

Common questions

What does Balsam Fir smell like?

Fresh, crisp, and resinous — similar to a real evergreen tree.

Is Balsam Fir the same as pine?

No — they come from different tree species with related but distinct scent profiles.

Can I apply this essential oil directly to my skin?

Not as a standalone oil — on its own, it’s intended for diffuser use only. You’ll already find it safely blended into a number of our topical products, though.
